Depending on the project, this may include architects, engineers, quantity surveyors, construction managers, general contractors, lenders, legal counsel, leasing advisors, planning consultants, environmental consultants, and property management partners.
This allows Bare Capital to remain flexible and responsive while giving partners direct access to decision-makers and a clear reporting structure.
Founder & Principal
Sophie Baran is a real estate executive and founder with more than 20 years of experience delivering complex, partnership-driven developments across residential, mixed-use, commercial, and institutional asset classes. As Founder and Principal of Bare Capital, she leads the identification, structuring, and execution of development and investment opportunities, guiding projects from acquisition through construction, stabilization, and long-term ownership.
Sophie holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Finance and Economics from the University of Alberta, is a CPA, and holds an MBA. Her career spans progressively senior roles across government, oil and gas, banking, and real estate, giving her a disciplined, multidisciplinary foundation in finance, governance, and execution. Sophie’s approach pairs disciplined underwriting with creative deal-making, structuring capital and partnerships around the specific needs of each project. She brings deep experience working with Indigenous partners, municipalities, lenders, institutional capital providers, and community stakeholders to align diverse interests around shared objectives.
She founded Bare Capital as a female-owned and female-run firm built on the principle of Capital with Impact — pairing each opportunity with the investor or partner best positioned to support its success. Outside of Bare Capital, Sophie is a proud wife and mother of two who enjoys spending time with her family, being outdoors, skiing in the winter, and walking her dog.

Project Management & Investor Relations
Mackenzie Bowerman supports Bare Capital’s project management and investor relations functions, helping ensure development opportunities are communicated clearly and executed with discipline. With years of experience in land and real estate development, and lifelong exposure to the industry, Mackenzie brings a practical understanding of how projects move from early concept and acquisition through construction, lease-up, stabilization, and long-term asset performance.
At Bare Capital, Mackenzie works across business planning, proposals, financial strategies, market insights, investor reporting, project coordination, and stakeholder communication. She helps translate complex project activity into clear, timely updates for investors, partners, lenders, consultants, and project teams, ensuring stakeholders remain informed and aligned throughout each stage of development.
Mackenzie is particularly skilled at bringing structure and momentum to fast-moving projects. Her strength lies in efficient, directed execution — keeping priorities organized, details captured, and deliverables moving forward. With a keen eye for detail and a strong understanding of the land development and real estate business, Mackenzie helps ensure that nothing gets overlooked. Through her role, Mackenzie contributes to the transparency, accountability, and execution discipline that support Bare Capital’s partnership-driven development model and investor confidence.
Finance & Operations
Alessandra Anderson is an accomplished finance and operations leader with more than a decade of experience spanning real estate development, construction, property management, residential homebuilding, and professional services. She brings extensive expertise in financial reporting, construction accounting, job costing, lender draws, budgeting, forecasting, audit readiness, and multi-entity financial management.
At Bare Capital, Alessandra provides leadership across the financial and operational functions that support the successful delivery of complex development projects. She is responsible for establishing the systems, controls, and reporting frameworks that guide projects from initial planning through construction and execution. Her experience encompasses residential, commercial, and industrial property accounting, construction finance, CAM reconciliations, cash flow management, payroll oversight, and financial controls.
Drawing on senior accounting and controller-level experience, Alessandra brings a disciplined and solutions-oriented approach to financial governance, project reporting, and operational strategy. She works closely with lenders, legal counsel, mortgage professionals, trade partners, land developers, and executive teams to strengthen accountability, manage risk, and support informed decision-making across partnership-driven developments.
Alessandra holds a Bachelor of Applied Business Administration in Accounting from MacEwan University and completed several modules of the CPA Canada Professional Education Program before choosing to pursue a broader career in finance, operations, and real estate development. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her young family, staying active, and travelling.
